Accomplishments to Date

Thanks to our dedicated staff and donors, Kol Koreh has accomplished so much over the past several years.

• Awareness of learning disabilities has increased greatly throughout Israel. Through workshops and seminars, many children have been identified, assessed, and provided with effective intervention.
• We established the Kol Koreh Bernard Silverstein Learning Center, which provides educational assessments, evidence-based intervention, and additional support for children with dyslexia and other learning disabilities. Our team of expert professionals enables accurate and timely intervention, with an emphasis on early detection so that children can receive support when the developing brain is most adaptable to intervention, and before they experience years of frustration and failure.
• We received the 2017 Initiative for Zionist Innovation Award, sponsored by Nefesh B’Nefesh, the Jewish National Fund, and the Blumenthal Family Foundation.
• We have educated parents about dyslexia, empowering them to advocate for their children within the school system.
• We established the Kol Koreh Virtual Learning Center to challenge and empower intelligent and talented children with learning differences by offering a wide range of activities and accessible educational resources.
• We offer an intensive English-language reading and spelling intervention program for students with dyslexia.
• We have advocated with local and national education officials to promote fundamental changes in the educational system on behalf of students with language-based learning disabilities.
• Kol Koreh created a unique high school class at Yeshivat Shaalvim for its incoming 2016 class. Specifically tailored to the needs of boys with dyslexia and other language-based learning disabilities, the program included preparation for full bagrut examinations. Following the success of this pioneering class, the school established two additional classes for students with dyslexia and other learning disabilities, which have also proven successful.
• For high school girls, Kol Koreh was closely involved with the remedial program for mainstreamed students at Beit Shulamit in Jerusalem. We provided student assessments and English literacy instruction, and trained staff and students to use assistive technology effectively to improve learning and studying.
• Kol Koreh supports an expanding network of schools in designing integrated classroom models, providing specialized assistive technology and focused teacher training that enable students with learning disabilities to succeed in mainstream high school classes.

Looking Ahead

Kol Koreh is working to raise the funds needed to move our Learning Center to a larger facility and significantly expand our services. We envision a comprehensive educational center with additional teaching and therapy rooms, space for lectures and workshops, and an expanded resource library offering instructional materials, games, audiovisual resources, assistive technology devices, and training.

The new center would also offer enrichment programs that allow children to explore and develop the areas in which they naturally shine. We want children to come to Kol Koreh not only to strengthen the areas in which they struggle, but also to discover their talents, build confidence, and experience success.

Our ultimate goal is for Kol Koreh to become a one-stop resource for information, evaluation, evidence-based intervention, enrichment, guidance, and support for children with dyslexia and other learning disabilities, as well as their families, educators, and professionals.
